CARBON FOOTPRINT

Service for measuring the environmental impact of products, services, organizations or events.

What is the Carbon Footprint and when is it estimated?

The Carbon Footprint is an estimate of the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions (e.g. carbon dioxide CO2, methane CH4, nitrogen monoxide N2O, hydrofluorocarbon HFCs, perfluorocarbon PFCs, sulphur hexafluoride SF6 ) of a product, service, organisation (e.g. a company), event or individual.

It is usually measured in tonnes of CO2 equivalent and can be used to determine the environmental impacts of anthropogenic activity on climate change and to plan offsetting actions.

Product carbon footprint (CFP)
Quantifies GHG emissions over the life cycle of a product, from extraction of raw materials to final disposal of the product at end-of-life according to an international reference standard (ISO 14067) based on an LCA study.

Carbon footprint of Organisation (CFO)
Quantifies an organisations’ GHG emissions, both directly produced by the organisation and indirectly generated in the production of the electricity and heat it uses.

The Carbon Footprint of an Organisation can be calculated following different international standards (ISO 14064-1 or GHG Protocol) that have an inventory approach as their basis.

Greenwich’s support

Greenwich supports the company in all phases of the procedure both from a technical point of view, in the elaboration of the GHG report, and from a strategic point of view, in the choice of how to communicate the Carbon Footprint.

Benefits for the company

  • Create the basis for reducing emissions (e.g. through process optimisation and a reduction in consumption and business costs) and increase the environmental sustainability of products/organisations.
  • Distinguish yourself on the market and increase your company’s ‘green reputation’.
  • Increase the chances of participating in calls for tenders or accessing tax benefits.
