FDES – Fiche Déclaration Environnementale et Sanitaire

Surveys the environmental and health performance of products intended for sustainable building design.

What is FDES?

A credible, informative and versatile French voluntary certification scheme for environmental communication between manufacturers (business to business) that describes the environmental performance of a construction product while providing health information.

It is developed according to international PCR (Product Category Rules) 15804+A1 and French national standards NF EN 15804/CN and is prepared on a scientific basis, i.e. on an LCA study.

Why publish an FDES?

Among the main reasons:

  • The desire to enhance the value of its Product in a market where there is an increasing market focus on sustainable products, whose environmental impact is communicated in a clear, transparent and effective manner.
  • The desire to respect and anticipate a European and national legislative framework that encourages companies to design, produce and market increasingly sustainable products (in France, FDES-equipped products are required to participate in GREEN public tenders).

The FDES certification process

  • Preparation of the LCA report and assessment of environmental impacts according to the reference PCR.
  • Assessment of health aspects of products
  • Preparation of the FDES document
  • Third-party verification
  • Publication of the FDES document in the INIES database.
