MANAGEMENT OF ECOSYSTEMS

Nature has an intrinsic ecological function that generates benefits and services for the benefit of humans. The Greenwich Biodiversity Expert Team is involved in the management of ecosystems, whether natural, man-made or agricultural, to assess and improve the ecosystem services of a site through the following activities:

  • classification and quantification of services,
  • measurement of their ecosystem values,
  • enhancement and valorisation.

This process improves the ecological functionality of a site or ecosystem and helps develop measures aimed at improving the multifunctionality of the ecosystem, including the creation of local or extended ecological networks.

A habitat that is more effectively constructed both in terms of quality and quantity will be better equipped to withstand the effects of the changing climate that define our era, even at our latitudes.

Planning and developing measures to protect the natural economy of a site, therefore, presents opportunities for all clients, be they park or protected area agencies, public administrations, territorial consortia, or other entities that wish to communicate and demonstrate an improved quality of an area’s environmental function.
